We officially met when Marshall subbed for his roommate on Jen's volleyball team. We goofed off instantly on and off the court, bouncing off each other's jokes the entire time. That night, we paid almost no attention to anyone else in the gym. It was a fun game, we met a new friend, but that was all. From there, the occasional "hey how are ya's" in passing turned into "...are we actually friends or just Facebook friends?" Marshall and Jen grabbed dinner one night in Mountain View and had such a great time on the first "date" that we both agreed to see where it goes. A few dates later...the rest was history. Unofficially, we crossed paths many months prior. Jen caught Marshall's eye at an indoor volleyball tournament where we played on separate teams on opposite sides of the venue. Despite 100s of people there that day, Marshall noticed Jen instantly but never introduced himself. On a separate occasion — Marshall dressed as a volleyball player from a cartoon, and Jen, a minion — we finally played against each other in an outdoor Halloween tournament. Marshall was laying sitting on the grass trash-talking his own team and making jokes. Jen vividly remembers how she liked Marshall's smile that day and gravitated toward his carefree energy. And yes, Jen's team beat Marshall's that day ;)
