It's up for debate as to when we first met, but we’ll say October 29, 2011 on Halloween weekend (also John's birthday), at a Lawrence bar (Tonic, for you Jayhawks). John was dressed as a Legends of the Hidden Temple teammate, helmet and all, and Alison was one-third of the three blind mice. Maybe it was the dark lights or maybe it was that John had 2 years to think about the girl he ignored at a party years prior, but they hit it off and immediately started dating. Six and a half years later, including two years of long-distance, two moves across the country, four years of veterinary school, several four-legged additions to the family, and everything in between, we are ready to make this thing official!

During Alison's last free summer of veterinary school, she had planned a trip to Nashville for the Zerger and Calhoun families. Little did she know that John already had a ring and was waiting for the perfect time to have both families together to propose. On August 4th, 2016 at Arrington Vineyards, John pulled Alison aside and proposed. They celebrated the rest of the weekend at the best honky-tonks Nashville has to offer. See you in Dallas!
