Mehndi, otherwise known as henna, is a paste associated with positive spirits and good luck. Tradition calls for a Mehndi ceremony to be held before the wedding as a way of wishing the bride good health and prosperity as she makes her journey on to marriage. The core significance of applying Mehndi is to utilize its natural medicinal herbal remedies, cooling the body and relieving the Bride of any stress before her big day. Henna is applied to both the hands and the feet as a means of cooling the nerve-endings of the body, preventing the nerves from tensing up!

The pithi ceremony is an auspicious ritual performed for good luck. Pithi is a paste made mainly of turmeric, chickpea flour and rose water. Family members and well-wishers of the bride and groom apply the paste on the bride/groom's skin. Towards the end of the ceremony, the most anticipated ending involves trashing the groom in common household condiments (eggs, flour, ketchup, whipped cream, you name it!) as the groom's initiation. Zehra will crack the first egg on Amir's head, and after that, he's all yours! So guests, bring your poncho's and your "A" game, literally! The bride kindly requests guests to refrain from applying any haldi to her face for purposes regarding ease of transition for hair and makeup, thank you!

Sangeet means song/dance, and that's exactly what it's all about, a dance party! It's one of the most popular of the Indian/Pakistani wedding traditions. The premise of the Sangeet is not only to rejoice, but to join the families and friends so that they familiarize themselves with one another prior to the big wedding day. Friends and family members of the Bride and Groom also choreograph dance numbers, to perform for the couple, adding to the jubilation of the event!
