How We Met

February 7th 2018

We met at a pool party on February 7th 2018. I was with my friends opposite side of the pool when a beautiful woman approached our group looking to partake in the beer pong festivities. While awaiting her turn to play she sat on the couch alone. With some words of encouragement from my friends I found the strength to go over and introduce myself. I was met immediately by loose decretive pillows that rose up between us like a great wall. She made it clear to not sit any closer. I thought to my self "challenge accepted" and I introduced my self "Hi i'm Zack" she answered back with "Hi i'm Genna with a G" I liked her unique spelling of her name it felt exotic. We started off with some small talk that grew into full on conversations about lifted trucks, surfing and flying. I mentioned I had a lifted truck in an effort to impress her, she responded with "I used to have a stick shift wrangler on 35's" alas we found common ground. We continued to talk and I had mentioned I recently purchased a new stand up paddle board from my friend Jon. She looked over and asked what Jon's last name was I told her "Middlebrook". Excitement was the look on her face "I know Jon him and I are friends he works for my dad" she said. "No way Jon and I went to school all growing up what a small world, who is your dad?" I asked. She told me "his name is GT he lives in St Augustine where I grew up" thought nothing of it at first but then it clicked. I bust out "Wow this is so weird I just bought one of your dads paddle boards from Jon last week and now I've met his daughter we have to hang out some time". With a side eye she said "maybe" and I asked "well can I at least have your Instagram handle so we can be friends?" She responded kindly with a yes and we exchanged info. I felt like I had finally broken through that pillow wall, metaphorically haha. The pillows remained in place to ensure proper social distancing ;). The day progressed and we went our separate ways after the party. I was dying to message her on Instagram but feel into the classic trap of when is to soon to message after meeting someone. So I did what any man in my position would do I waited and went though her profile instead. I stumbled upon a photo of her in front of an airplane looking cute. I thought this would be the perfect way to open up a conversation. I liked the photo and then slid into her DM with a "do you fly?". After a day of no response I thought well that was dumb you should have waited longer to talk to her. I broke down and sent a second message "well i'm a pilot and id love to take you flying one day let me know if not it was nice meeting you" After another day goes by and i'm feeling like theres no chance she is interested in me she responded with "that sounds amazing I would love to do that when should we go?" We set a date and off tot he airport we went on our first official date together. We went flying ( I later found out she did not like the flight that much, it was bumpy and likely a bit scary being in a small airplane with an almost complete stranger) and the whole time i'm thinking of how cool and impressive this is. When we landed it was brunch time and I knew I didn't want to say goodbye just yet. I invited her to go to brunch with me at my favorite spot The Blind Rabbit. I could tell she was excited too. I came to find out later down the road that was the real reason she kept seeing me. It was not the airplane ride that I thought was so impressive but the moment I order bottomless mimosas for her at brunch, sharing stories of ourselves and really getting to know each other. We started dating slowly, eventually progressing to an invite to fly to an airshow with me where we could camp on the airport. On April 12th 2018 at Sun N Fun I asked her to be my girlfriend, she said yes and I jumped with excitement. I couldn't believe it she wanted to be with me I asked again to make sure I wasn't dreaming. She said yes again with a laugh and our relationship began.
