Yes - we are asking that every guest for any portion of the wedding weekend be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (full series plus available boosters) AND receive a verified negative result on a COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of arrival.
Yes! The The Wedding is at Twickenham House - a mountain cliffside wedding venue just outside of West Jefferson, NC. The venue is unique in that it is designed to host wedding parties and their families in a communal “all-you-need” setting. The venue is made up of four key areas: 1) Twickenham House - a large 8+ bedroom house with a billiards room, large manicured lawn, a movie room, and more where close friends and family will be staying. 2) “Twinkie” - a smaller 5+ bedroom house immediately next to the main house. 3) The Reception Hall - self-explanatory! Less than 100 yards from the houses and complete with outdoor patio space. 4) The Ceremony Space - a cliffside concrete patio in the moss and trees overlooking a huge swath of the Blue Ridge mountains. This is about 0.25 mi down a path from the main houses.
Our wedding is set for Thursday, June 23rd - Sunday, June 26th. Here's a rundown of what to expect! Thursday, June 23 - in the evening, arrivals will begin and, for the wedding party and those staying onsite at the house, the rehearsal dinner will take place at 7pm. Friday, June 24 - A full day of fun onsite at the house. Think reunion meets field day. We'll have games, competitions, down time, cooking, relaxation, and it all wraps with an evening talent showcase in the house's backyard. Saturday, June 25 - The wedding day! Flexible first part of the day. Ceremony will be at 5pm ET and a cocktail hour, reception, dinner, and dancing will follow. Sunday, June 26th - All must vacate Twickenham property by 10am, so for anyone staying in the house, we'll wrap up and say goodbyes fairly early!
For Friday: anything goes! This is a day to have a good time and reunite with close friends and make new ones while you're at it. Bring something to move in if you want to play games, bring something to lounge in if you want to do nothing but drink and watch movies. The house and the day are your oyster. For Saturday (the wedding): we're encouraging a semi-formal, but comfortable-style attire. Sun dresses, maxi dresses, LBDs, jumpsuits, sport coats, button ups, suits, tie or no tie, it's all appropriate.
Oh yes. We've got too many talented friends to keep that bottled up during a celebration. Friday night, we're hosting a show in the backyard of Twickenham House featuring singing, dancing, hooping, fire spinning, live music, and more. ALL are welcome to be a part of it, so if you have a talent that you want to show off, or if you want to do something as a part of group, let us know!
West Jefferson is not near much. It's almost equidistant from the Charlotte, NC airport and the Raleigh, NC airport (Charlotte is about 45 min. shorter drive) so if you are debating where you should fly into, both are viable options. We would STRONGLY recommend coordinating arrival with friends and family who may also be attending if you are coming from out of state. This will create the opportunity to share a rental car from the airport to the venue. Parking is very limited at the site, so carpooling is in everyone's interest - more affordable + save space on the mountain. If you need help coordinating on that front, let us know and we can try to find a spot for you in someone's vehicle!
Yes and no. If you are a guest who has been invited to stay in the house onsite, then yes, you can drive and park at the house. If you are a guest who is staying in a nearby hotel, airbnb, or other accommodation, please do not drive to the venue yourself. Because the road up to Twickenham is mountainous and winding, it is not safe for multiple vehicles to be going up and down at the same time. To work around this, we are providing shuttles that will depart from the Holiday Inn in West Jefferson to take anyone staying off-site to the House for events on both Friday and Saturday. All you'll need to do is find your way to that Holiday Inn at an appropriate departure time.
