Williams is the gateway to the Grand Canyon, one of the natural wonders of the world. The South Rim is just about an hour’s drive north, and it’s a place we never tire of visiting. It holds an extra special place in our hearts as it is where Zachary proposed to Nicole on his 31st birthday on July 20. Whether it’s your first time or your tenth, the views are always breathtaking and well worth the trip.
A visit to Bearizona is always a highlight. The drive-through animal exhibits offer a chance to see wildlife up close, and Zachary especially enjoys watching the wolves with their impressive paws and striking presence. After the drive, we recommend strolling through the zoo to visit Nicole’s favorites—the grizzly bears, which she lovingly calls the “golden bears.”
Just across the street from The Historic Grand Canyon Hotel, you’ll find one of our favorite shops on Route 66: Colors of the West. It’s a charming store full of unique treasures, and many of our Grand Canyon outfits have come from here. We hope you’ll enjoy browsing their collection as much as we always do.
For something truly unique, we recommend a quick stop at the Poozeum—the world’s largest collection of fossilized dinosaur poop. This quirky and entertaining museum is one of Zachary’s favorite spots in town. Be sure to chat with the owner, George, at the front desk; he is incredibly knowledgeable and has personally collected many of the fossils on display. Admission is free, though a small donation is encouraged to support this fun and educational stop.
One of our favorite ways to start the day in Williams is with breakfast here. We always share the Belgian waffle, and it’s a treat we look forward to each time we visit this charming town. We hope you enjoy it just as much as we do!
One of the simple joys of Williams is watching the trains roll through town. The best times are around 9:00 a.m., when the Grand Canyon Railway is boarding passengers and preparing for departure, and again around 5:30 p.m., when it returns from its journey.
One of our favorite stops in the area is the Grand Canyon Deer Park, where you can get up close to the deer—and even feed them! It’s always a fun and memorable experience.
