MaryGrace's parents both grew up in Michigan near Detroit, with the Lewis side in Ann Arbor and the Markley side in Birmingham. Zach's parents are from just one hour south of Detroit, with both the Prephan and Schaefer sides in Perrysburg, Ohio. Detroit is a great central location for both families - being close to a major airport was also key for our many out-of-town guests (including ourselves!).
The dress code is Black Tie. For men, tuxedos are preferred. For women, this entails full length dresses. Bold colors, patterns, materials, and styles are strongly encouraged - don't be shy!
Any guests invited will be listed on your invitation envelope and will be on the same RSVP form as your own name online. Additional guests beyond those explicitly listed cannot be accommodated.
Some newborns and young children may be in attendance during the ceremony. However, the dance floor is expected to be for adults only. Please be sure to refer to your invitation for clarification on who is invited to join us, and come ready to party!
Yes. There is a large parking lot in front of the venue for all of our guests to use. We aren't sure if cars are allowed to be left overnight, but will update here when we know for sure. Please plan to party responsibly and have a designated driver or use Uber & Lyft which are both readily available in the area.
The War Memorial is also a Veteran Community Center. There are spaces such as reflection rooms around the venue that provide an opportunity for visitors to pay respects to veterans. Both Zach and MaryGrace have many veterans in their families, including the MaryGrace's father, Brian, who served 20 years as a pilot in the Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2016. Please see their website if you'd like to learn more about the venue's community outreach. https://www.warmemorial.org/ (One of MaryGrace's relatives has his name engraved on the memorial plaque in the Alger House stairway: "Nathan K. Van Osdol, Jr.")
