Flight
We recommend flying in to either JFK or LGA. The quickest option for getting to Shelter Island is renting a car, but the Long Island Rail Road also offers easy public transportation. See car and train directions below.
Travel Note
Shelter Island is ~2.5 hour drive east from NYC. Take the Long Island Express Way (I-495) to NY-27E, and continue to the South Ferry located in North Haven. There are a few route options depending on traffic and your origin, so follow navigation apps to either North Haven (South Fork, likely fastest) or Greenport (North Fork, more scenic). Navigation apps may not understand ferry times, so ETAs for navigating directly to locations on Shelter Island may be inaccurate.
Train
LIRR offers service to Greenport via the Ronkonkoma branch, but only a few trains make the full trip to Greenport — please check schedules! The last Greenpoint train leaves Jamaica around 6PM. There will be a brief transfer at Ronkonkoma station to the Greenport train. Tickets can be purchased at the station or ahead of time on the MTA Train Time app. From Penn Station/Grand Central: Take the LIRR Ronkonkoma branch to Greenport. From JFK: Take the Airtrain to Jamaica station, then follow LIRR train directions on the Ronkokoma branch. From LGA: Take a taxi to Jamaica station, then follow LIRR train directions on the Ronkokoma branch. The North Ferry terminal is right next to the train station at Greenport. Ferries run every ~5–10 minutes and there are no reservations. Purchase a token from the machine in the small ferry building; tokens cost $2, and the machines are cash only. If arriving by train, you'll need a quick ride to the venue. See the FAQ or text Zach (831)-359-0324 for more info.
