Question

Lodging - Important!

Answer

We've reserved several houses within walking distance of the venue for Friday and Saturday nights, so we can offer everyone a bedroom in a guest house. The exact accommodation details will depends on the house, so we'll try to place your party in a rental that will suit your needs. Lodging on Shelter Island is very limited in the summer months, so we *highly* recommend using this option! We're currently planning to split this housing cost equally among all who use it, and we expect it to come to around $150 total per person for the full weekend. This will be much cheaper than other options in the area. Please let us know in the RSVP if you'll be using our housing, and we'll reach out to coordinate details. If you'd like to secure your own lodging, you'll probably need a vehicle to get around. Off-island housing will require a vehicle to get to/from the ferry.

Question

Ferries

Answer

Shelter island is only reachable via ferries, which take walk-ons and cars. The South Ferry operates from North Haven with a three minute crossing, while the North Ferry operates from Greenport with a ten minute crossing. The ferries only operate between 6 am and midnight, so please double check that the ferry schedule is compatible with your travel plans! Trains run directly to the North Ferry in Greenport, but if you're driving the South Ferry at North Haven may be a quicker option. Both ferries are cash-only. You can find schedule info and prices at www.NorthFerry.com and www.SouthFerry.com.

Question

Arriving at Shelter Island Without a Car

Answer

The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) operates service to Greenport, and you can walk on to the ferry from the train terminal. If you're coming from NYC, you can get the train from Penn Station, Atlantic Terminal, or Jamaica (near JFK). However, someone with a vehicle will need to pick you up on the other side of the crossing. Please text Zach your travel details at (831)-359-0324 if you plan to need a pick-up, at least a day in advance. Please also make sure that you have $3 in cash for a ferry token (purchased at the machine inside the ferry terminal). Note that there will be very limited taxi options, and don't expect rideshare apps to be available on the island.

Question

Getting Around Shelter Island

Answer

Renting a car is definitely not required, but it will make getting around Shelter Island easier. All housing we've booked in advance is within walking distance of the venue and beach. If you'd like to explore on or off island, having a car will probably be required. Alternatively, biking on the island is a great option to get around. Note that there will be very limited taxi options, and don't expect rideshare apps to be available on the island.
