Flight
There are 3 airports you can take Leon, Queretaro, or Mexico City. Below are facts about each airport and things to consider: 1) (Most recommended- fastest and closest): Aeropuerto Internacional de Queretaro (QRO), located 75 km (about an hour and 10-minute drive) from San Miguel de Allende (SMA). 2) (Also recommended- second fastest option): The Aeropuerto del Bajio (BJX) also known as the Leon-Guanajuato Airport located 110 km (about an hour and 20-minute drive) from San Miguel. 3) (Mexico City Benito Juarez Airport (MEX) also known as AICM- likely the most affordable but longest option): The MEX airport is also a great option but the commute is 4 hours longer than the other two options. This option is also recommended if you consider yourself more travel savvy and are comfortable traveling a spanish speaking environment. Please Note: When making your travel plans that there is another airport in Mexico city called Felipe Angeles (AIFA). Make sure to NOT select this as your airport as we cannot confirm if there are buses from this airport to SMA or QRO. NOTE: If your flight arrives very late, we would recommend waiting until morning to leave to ensure your safety. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR TRAVEL OPTIONS FROM YOUR AIRPORT TO SMA
Travel Note
This option is ONLY if you arrive to QRO or BJX airports. Upon arrival at either of these airports, pre-book a transfer with Bajiogo. Bajiogo is a very reliable company. This company is very accommodating for transfers both ways. The service is very timely and professional. The website is attached for your convenience in the "view" tab. Uber is also a safe and reliable option as well! Travel Tip: If arriving really late at night, I would consider booking a nearby airport hotel to transfer in the morning instead of driving at night. Queretaro is a wonderful and safe city to explore as well.
Travel Note
There are two great options that both entail transportation through a safe and reliable coach bus: -Option A is a coach bus option leaving directly from the airport that has buses from MEX airport to the San Miguel de Allende Bus station (4 hr ride)- we only recommend using the bus company called "ETN". From there you can Uber to your area of stay. -Option B is a great coach bus option leaving directly from the airport that has buses from MEX airport to QRO (3 hr ride)- we mostly recommend choosing the coach bus business called "Primera Plus". After this, the bus central in QRO (where Primera Plus drops you off) has buses that go directly to SMA daily (1 hr ride). We recommend the coach bus company called "ETN" or "Primera Plus" or Uber. Uber should range from 500-1000 pesos ($25-50 USD) If choosing this option, it is best to purchase the tickets online to secure your preferred seating and make sure your preferred travel timing options are selected as well. Attached is the website for the bus company called Primera Plus. Please note: Give yourself about 1.5 hr after your plane lands to have time to get food, make it through customs, and also make the 15 min walking commute to the station.
Travel Note
A reason we love SMA is because the city is very safe and walkable! Some streets are very quaint and narrow so walking is probably the best "mode of transportation" while in the city. Navigating these narrow roads can be difficult, but you are welcome to rent a car if you are an experienced and savvy driver. That said, Uber or taxis are readily available to get you around the city if in a hurry. Uber is very reliable, taxis will require cash.
