Denver, CO

How it began...

TL;DR: Started with snowy slopes and a stuck pickup truck—and somehow turned into forever.

“Hi everyone, I’m planning on snowboarding at Winter Park tomorrow. What time should I hit the road?” Yiding asked in a Denver outdoors group chat one ordinary Friday night. “I usually leave around 5:30am during ski season,” Jennie replied—just happening to see the message and offering a helpful tip. They quickly connected. Jennie explained why the early wake-up was worth it for fresh powder and, most importantly: avoiding I-70 traffic at all cost. Since her usual ski buddies weren’t going, she and Yiding decided to carpool to Winter Park Resort. On the drive, they bonded over their love of random American pop music. They had a blast hitting the slopes, and Jennie discovered Yiding was a Swiftie (green flag moment?). Yiding, in turn, was struck by Jennie’s calmness and problem-solving skills—especially when his pickup truck got stuck in the parking lot for four hours. That’s how it all started. Two weeks later, Yiding asked Jennie out—and bravely asked if she’d be his girlfriend. Jennie didn’t say yes right away. Over the next few weeks, she met his lovely parents, and they continued finding shared interests in movies —Oppenheimer, Blade Runner (both the 1982 movie and the Ryan Gosling one) and more. Then one snowy day, as they watched sparkling snow fall from the trees, Jennie realized Yiding didn’t just love the bold adventures—he also appreciated the small ones that makes life beautiful. That quiet connection spoke louder than any words. And that is when she realized he is the one.

On to forever...

Over the next few months, they met many of each other’s friends (mostly ski-trips, plus Jennie's fellowship at church). Not long after, they decided to get married. Because… why not, when you’ve finally met your soulmate? On Memorial Day 2024, they got engaged at Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. And after their parents met in China a few weeks later, on June 24, 2024, they signed the papers at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Golden, CO—witnessed by three closed friends and one golden retriever—and officially became husband and wife. In March 2025, Jennie tore her ACL in a ski accident. The two unexpectedly lived out the “in sickness and in health” part of their vows sooner than expected. It’s been a chapter of learning: not every moment is perfect, but they’re committed to solving life’s challenges together—with love, humor, and resilience (specifically, Yiding taking over all the dishes duty). Now, just over one year into marriage, they’re thrilled to celebrate with all of you this September—renewing their vows before God and finally having the wedding day they’ve dreamed of: surrounded by the people they love most.
