Things To Do

Houston is a city with plenty to offer, and here are a few of our favorites spots. We really appreciate you coming to visit and hope you have a great time!

The Menil Collection

1533 Sul Ross Street, Houston, TX 77006

Designed by one of my personal favorites, Renzo Piano, the Menil Campus is home to a permanent collection of great contemporary art and a rotating gallery of Duchamp, Man Ray, and Max Ernst. Admission is free, so stop by and be sure to go for a walk around the grounds. -Michael

The Galleria

5085 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77056

I'll be honest: I've never been here. However, Dallas has a Galleria Mall I'm incredibly proud of and I feel like there's no way Houston's is better. However, those who call Houston home swear up and down that the Houston Galleria is better, so it's probably worth visiting and seeing for yourself - Mariah

James Turrell's "Twilight Epiphany" Skyspace

Houston, TX 77005

James Turrell does a lot of work with light and scale, and Skyspace is no different. It's hard to explain, but it's essentially a beautiful light sequence that runs at sunrise and sunset. Don't worry about making a reservation. The space is free and open to the public, but I recommend you get there about 30 minutes before sunrise or sunset to get a good view of the light sequence. While you're here, feel free to enjoy some of the free exhibitions at the Moody Center as well - Michael

Blue Bell Creameries

1101 South Blue Bell Road, Brenham, TX 77833

This recommendation is out of the way, but I don't make it lightly. Blue Bell is the world's best ice cream and you can make a pilgrimage to the promised land if you have a car. Hours are fairly limited, but the ice cream parlor here has flavors you can't get in store. If you can't make your way to Brenham, Texas, don't worry! Head on over to your H-E-B and grab pints of their Homemade Vanilla, Butter Pecan, Banana Pudding, and Cookies 'n Cream -Mariah

Montrose

Houston, TX

Houston is a very LGBTQ+-friendly city and Montrose is Houston's most prominent LGBTQ neighborhood. Here you'll find plenty of trendy bars, diverse restaurants, and eclectic coffee shops. Our recs: Pho Saigon and The Toasted Coconut

Houston Heights

Houston, TX 77008

Whenever we're in town we try to find a bar in the Heights to grab a drink and catch up with friends. The Heights has plenty of great bars, boutiques, and fun restaurants. Our recs: Street Food Thai Market, Crawfish & Noodles, and BB's

Shipleys

5513 Richmond Avenue, Houston, TX 77056

If you do nothing else for breakfast on Sunday, please make sure you go to one of the 100 Shipley's locations in the greater Houston area. Shipley's is an institution in Houston and not to be missed. Get yourself a dozen glazed doughnuts and an assortment of kolaches before you tackle the rest of the day
