Chinese Hongbao with Venmo
In a Chinese, traditional wedding, the "hongbao" (or Red Envelope) is a monetary gift presented to the couple on the day of their wedding! The red color of the envelope symbolizes good fortune and is a symbol to ward off evil spirits.
We want to make wedding gifting a breeze for our guests! On our wedding weekend, please Venmo your hongbao to @LishanMu (using the link is easiest) with a personal note and the emoji: "lucky money." We will comment on the transaction to confirm receipt of your wonderful present!
If you'd like to instead follow Chinese tradition and present a hongbao or don't have Venmo, we will have hongbaos available for you to use the day of the wedding! The most important rule to abide by:
Money should not be given in fours, or the number four should not appear in the amount, such as in 40, 400 and 444, as the pronunciation of the word four (Chinese: 四) is homophonous to the word death (Chinese: 死).
