Brought Together by Chongqing (and Spice)

He'd survived the hot pot. She knew he was a keeper.

We met at USC Marshall during our Master of Finance program - but the moment that really stood out came when Yini learned that Alex had visited her hometown of Chongqing with his family, years before the city went viral for its cyberpunk skyline and trains passing through skyscrapers. When Yini came to the US for college, most people she met had never even heard of Chongqing when she told them where she was from. So finding out Alex not only knew the city, but had actually been there, left a lasting impression - long before they fell in love. And then came the hot pot story. Alex's family had ventured into a traditional Chongqing spicy hot pot - and let's just say it was, in his words, a "WWIII" situation. Yini, a lifelong lover of all things spicy, found this both hilarious and endearing. A city most people couldn't place on a map. A bowl of notoriously fiery hot pot. And a boy who had somehow already found his way to her hometown before he ever found his way to her. Now, we're bringing everyone we love to Chongqing to celebrate together. For our guests joining us from the US, we can't wait to share a piece of Chinese culture and tradition with you. For our family and friends in China, thank you for welcoming Alex and being part of this moment. With so much love, Yini and Alex
