Home to the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame in Central Park, "Davis boasts more than 50 miles of bicycle paths and more bicycles per capita than any other city in the nation" (City of Davis, 2021, para. 1). UC Davis is 5,300 acres, which is large enough to hold UCLA's campus 10 times (yes, 10). There are plenty of bike sharing stations scattered across town for you to get around without having to rely on ride share apps (note: if you plan on biking at night, you will need a bike light). If you're staying at the Hyatt, consider biking and walking to some of the places listed on this page!
Located on the southern part of campus, the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden is a must for anyone who loves plants and/or wants to do some cardio. The 100+ acre arboretum is conveniently located right next to the wedding venue and is open 24/7. If you're lucky, you may spot one of the UC Davis river otters, turtles, and other wildlife! Fun challenge: If you have time, check out The Shovel Gateway, the first city-funded artwork to be installed on the UC Davis campus. Nate was one of two dedicated UC Davis Arboretum volunteers who collected shovels that were donated from members of the Davis community every weekend during the spring of 2013 when he was an undergrad.
Voted America's best farmers market when Nate was an undergrad and consistently ranked as a top 10 farmers market in the nation, the Davis Farmers Market is a must for any foodie. Freshly made corn dogs from The Hotdogger and delicious apple juice from Laughing Apple Farm are a must! You can find local honey, olive oil, fruits, nuts, veggies, and more to bring back home. The market opens at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art is a FREE museum located directly across from the wedding venue and a short walk from the Hyatt. It may not be the Louvre, but it's a neat place to visit if you're looking to kill some time. Free tickets can be reserved via their website.
"Are they really recommending a grocery store?" Yes. This is a wonderful place to load up on a variety of cheeses, wine, and other snacks to bring back to your hotel room. If you're craving a build-your-own sandwich, The Nugget off East Covell Blvd is the place to go. Nate's fav: grilled chicken on ciabatta with mayo, mustard, roasted red bell peppers, pepper jack cheese, and mixed greens. There are multiple Nugget Markets in Davis--this is the one you want to go to.
Do you own a wine glass that says "It's wine-o'clock" in gold, cursive writing? Do you like taking photos in chic clothing for social media? If you answered "yes" to one of both of those questions, Napa Valley is the place for you! All jokes aside, avoid the weekend rush and visit during the weekday before the wedding, if you can.
SF. The City. Yejin loves the Golden Gate Bridge and Blue Bottle Coffee. Nate has fond memories of walking from the Caltrain station to the Kiva office on 4th & Howard. There are more things to do in SF than characters allowed in this text box.
