Travel Note
We recommend you book a hotel in the North Side of Bogotá. Good areas are El Rosal, Quinta Camacho, Zona G, El Chicó, El Retiro, Zona T, and Parque de la 93. Even though La Candelaria (downtown) is advertised as a good and cheap place to stay since it is a tourist attraction, be aware that it can become very dangerous at night time. Nevertheless, La Candelaria is a must for everyone traveling to Bogotá. The best museums, plazas, and colonial architecture are there. Just exercise common sense and keep your belongings out of sight and be careful while taking pictures with your fancy cellphones or voluptuous cameras as they may be "borrowed" by locals but never returned... It's part of the adventure!
Travel Note
We recommend that you visit the following museums: Museo del Oro, Casa de la Moneda, Museo Botero del Banco de la República, Museo Nacional, Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (MAMBO), Casa del Florero, Maloka (for families/friends), Biblioteca Virgilio Barco. For best coffee: Café Quindio, Azahar, Amor Perfecto, OMA, Juan Valdez. Any coffee shop in Usaquén, which is in the Northeast area of the city. If you are there on a Sunday, go to Usaquén for their amazing Mercado de las Pulgas (flea market). For outdoor adventures: Jardin Botánico (if you want to see a lot of orchids), Parque Simón Bolivar, Iglesia de Monserrate is a MUST if you want to climb up 1,186 steps (or take the funicular or cable car) over 1,800 foot of elevation to see the BEST view of the city. Rumba & Parteeee: Quiebracanto (salsa), Clandestino, Gaira Café Cumbia House, Andrés DC, Andrés Carne de Res (Chía). Best restaurants and places to eat: Crepes & Waffles (you must try it at least once- there is one in the airport too), La Puerta Falsa (Candelaria near Casa del Florero and Teatro Colón), Andrés Carne de Res and La Plaza de Andrés for amazing food and drinks (try the chunchullo and the empanadas criollas), Sabrocito for cheap and great lunch.
