When it all began...

12-28-2020

This may sound cringy to some, but we met online. Picture this: it's June 26, 2020. Yaremi, a high schooler bored at home during quarantine, posts a video on YouTube for her 100 subscribers, not thinking much of it. David is scrolling through Instagram on a regular Friday night when suddenly he receives a call from his best friend, which causes his Instagram feed to refresh. What's the best option for David? He goes on YouTube and searches the topic of the video he had last seen about manifestations. Yaremi's video is the first one to pop up. David thinks Yaremi is cute, so he sends her a DM on Instagram, praising her channel. Yaremi didn’t get any creepy vibes; instead, she thought it was fascinating that someone from outside her school had watched her video. They texted back and forth, which then turned into FaceTime calls to confirm they were both real. Six months later, they decided to meet. They both had Mexican parents—sorry, STRICT parents. David came up with what turned out to be the perfect plan (we’ll get to that later). David had to travel from Arizona to Colorado to meet Yaremi for the first time. He decided to lie to his parents and tell them he was traveling to Colorado with some buddies for a skiing trip. Meanwhile, he was actually going to book the sketchiest hotel room in Downtown Denver, spend New Year’s with Yaremi’s family, and not tell a single person the truth—except for Yaremi, of course, because she had to know the plan. December 28, 2020, comes around, and Yaremi and her mom pick up David at the airport. You see, Yaremi had strict parents her whole life, but somehow they didn’t think meeting a boy who lived 364 miles away was THAT bad. To be fair, Yaremi’s mom laughed at her when she told her she was texting a boy from Arizona. Obviously, she didn’t think it would go farther than that, but there they were, on their way to pick up the Arizona boy from the airport. That same day, David planned for a mariachi band to play outside of Yaremi’s house to ask her to be his girlfriend. The rest is history, but to sum it up: they went through long distance for two years, and David went to trade school for audio engineering, which helped him score a job with the Broncos! That was the perfect excuse to move to Colorado. A few months later, they became parents to an adorable corgi, who, of course, is their baby and joy. Fast forward to May 12, 2024, when David got down on one knee and asked the most important question of his life to Yaremi: "¿Te quieres casar conmigo?" With tears in her eyes and a few boogers, Yaremi said yes, and here we all are now. Ah, of course, why was David's plan so perfect? Because Yaremi’s parents never found out that David had lied to his parents about going to Colorado to meet Yaremi until the day after Yaremi and David got married through court. Now it’s a good laugh between both families, and there’s nothing but joy waiting for the day when Yaremi and David say "I do" in front of God with all their loved ones as witnesses.
