Yannick and Nelly met back in 2019. Nelly's family took a trip to Cameroon for a funeral celebration in honor of her grandparents. Mr and Mrs Nkengfack (Nelly's parents) intended to use this trip as an opportunity to show the kids their roots and the place they grew up. Since Nelly and Yannick's families knew each other from childhood, the Nkengfack family decided to make a pit stop at the Yemafouo family home. That is when Nelly and Yannick "first" met; "first" is put in quotation marks because Yannick later revealed to Nelly that they actually used to hang out (alongside their family members) when they were very young, but Nelly did not remember because she was very young at the time. So, when their reunion in 2019 took place, sparks flew so hard that siblings from both sides of the union noticed. Yannick and Nelly decided to exchange numbers so they could keep in touch, and it was history from there.

Two years into their long-distance relationship and at the tail-end of the Coronavirus epidemic, Nelly decided to visit Cameroon again to see Yannick. Yannick had a whole plan ready for them so their time spent together would be one to remember. They took a 5-day trip to a different city in Cameroon (where some of Nelly's family and Yannick's closest friends reside). They planned a night out, where Yannick invited Nelly's family and a couple of his closest friends. They enjoyed a nice dinner and drinks. Throughout the night, Nelly could feel a nervousness coming from Yannick; he is usually calm and collected, but never nervous. The entire night out, Yannick and his friends were acting a bit strange, often walking off to have private conversations on how to execute the proposal; Nelly was none the wiser. Finally, they instructed the wait staff to put the ring in Nelly's glass. Funnily enough, she was so focused on having a good time, she did not even notice the ring in the glass when she poured herself a drink; luckily, she did not ingest the ring. At one point, the wait staff returned to clear their table and retrieved Nelly's glass to try it once more; this time, Yannick instructed her to clean her glass before pouring anything into it. The moment she tipped the glass over, the ring fell onto the floor. Once she picked it up and stood up, Yannick was already on one knee. So much joy and excitement was running through Nelly's veins that she could barely hear anything he said, aside from, “Will you make me the happiest man on earth and be my wife?” As soon as she said yes, the wait staff came in with sparklers and cheered. It was definitely a moment they'll cherish forever, as it marked the start of their future together.
