See those pictures? Yea, that’s us. I bet you’re wondering how we got here. The year was 2007 or maybe 2008. We are still not totally sure, lol. Either way, we met at Savannah State University in Savannah, GA. Zay swears it happened in the cafeteria. At the time, Zay was a sophomore and Whitney was a freshman. What we both know for sure is that our dear friend Roby introduced us. During our time at SSU, we hung out as friends. When Whitney graduated in 2007, she accepted a position in Savannah and decided to stay another year. That year, we became roommates. Even though we lived together, our schedules could not have been more different. Whitney worked early mornings and Zay worked overnight. We barely saw each other, but our friendship stayed steady. After that year, Whitney moved back to Atlanta while Zay stayed in Savannah. In 2015, Zay moved back to Macon. Over the years, we kept in touch. We got together on Zay’s trips to Atlanta, for group celebrations, and that one time Whitney visited Macon. When Whitney moved to Boston in 2018, we caught up whenever she was back in Atlanta, usually over drinks. When the COVID pandemic hit, we stayed connected through virtual game nights and endless group video calls (RIP to house party). By 2021, we found ourselves living in the same city again. One day, while hanging out like we always had, something just felt different. At first, we laughed about how weird it was and spent a lot of time talking it through. After a couple months of conversation, a few dates, and a whole lot of praying (mostly by Whitney), we decided to give it a real chance. Funny enough, after a year of dating, we ended up in different cities again. But God used that season to strengthen and challenge our relationship in all the best ways. Now, after nearly two decades of friendship and several years of dating, we cannot wait to say “I do” and celebrate our special day with you.
