The Wedding Website of Ryan Dempsey and Sally Wong
In all our travels, there's been no place that's more special to us than Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and the Gorges du Verdon. A town carved into a mountain. A 25km long turqoise river canyon emptying into a clear blue lake. And home to one of the largest lavender fields in the world. The area has something for everyone. We can't wait to show you this incredible place!

Travel Note

Wedding Venue

Our wedding takes place in the heart of the Parc Naturel du Verdon at the Monastère de Ségriès, a charming XIXth century Cistercian monastery. Abandoned for many years, this former monastery was brought back to life thanks to the energy and passion of its owners, Annemarie and Dhruv. Today, the monastery hosts not just weddings but events such as music festivals, ballroom dancing competitions, and monk silent retreats. The monastery is haven of greenery, with a swimming pool and an organic vegetable garden. Remnants of its former life include the chapel, where the DJ party will be held, and the cloisters, where our reception will be held. The monastery is located 6 km (10 min drive) from the beautiful village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, and a 20 minute drive to Lac de Ste-Croix and and the Verdon Gorge.

Airport Options

There are 3 airport options: 1) Paris (CDG or ORY) - Paris often has cheaper direct flights from major international airports, making it a great option if you want to explore the city before heading south. - From Paris to Provence, you can take a 3-hour high-speed train to Marseille or Aix-en-Provence. (Note: We don’t recommend the 6-hour train ride to Nice—it’s scenic but long.) Alternatively, take a short flight into Marseille or Nice if you prefer. - You'll then need to rent a car in either Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, or Nice and drive to the wedding venue/Moustiers (see below). 2) Marseille (MRS) - While flights to Marseille may require a layover, it’s the closest major airport to our wedding venue. - From the Marseille airport or train station, rent a car and enjoy a scenic 1.5-hour drive to the venue. 3) Nice (NCE) - Nice sometimes offers direct flights from North American cities and is a wonderful starting point if you’re planning to explore the French Riviera. - From Nice, rent a car for a scenic 2-hour drive to the venue.

Rental Car

Getting Around

We highly recommend renting a car once you arrive in Marseille or Nice, as it’s the easiest and quickest way to explore the Provence region and reach Moustiers-Sainte-Marie/the wedding venue. Rental companies are available at both airports and train stations. Important tip: If you’re from North America, double-check that you’re booking an automatic car—manual cars are the default in Europe. Don’t Drive? No Problem! If you don’t drive, please let us know! We’ll do our best to coordinate an alternative mode of transportation or connect you with other guests for carpooling.

We are privatizing the monastery for 2 nights (June 30-July 2) and encourage everyone to stay right at the wedding venue during these dates, where there are rooms for up to 80 people to stay onsite. Other Hotel Recommendations

We recommend arriving in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie by June 28 to fully enjoy the local tours we’ve planned for June 29 (or to come early/stay late to take advantage of all the activities the area has to offer). Be sure to check out our “Things to Do” page for inspiration. For those arriving early or staying late, here are some recommended accommodations based on ones we’ve visited. All options include parking, are a 10–20 minute walk to Moustiers village center, and a 10-minute drive to the wedding venue. There are also plenty of other charming hotels and homestays in the area—check Booking.com and Airbnb for lots of options! 1) Hotel La Ferme Rose (https://lafermerose.com/gb/index.htm ) A charming hotel with a serene garden, a lovely pool, and delightful breakfasts. The quirky lobby decor adds a fun touch, and the staff can even suggest local hikes for you. 2) Hotel Les Restanques de Moustiers (https://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/les-restanques-de-moustiers.en-gb.html) A great all-around option with a pool and courtyard, located just a short and easy walk from the village center. 3) La Bastide de Moustiers (https://www.bastide-moustiers.com/en) A luxurious, upscale retreat run by Alain Ducasse, the famed Michelin-starred French chef. Perfect for those looking to indulge in an elegant, high-end experience. 4) La Clorinde (https://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/holiday-home-la-clorinde.en-gb.html) A cozy homestay overlooking an olive grove, run by a warm and welcoming French host. The rooms are spacious, and the continental breakfast is lovely. Keep in mind, as this is a homestay, there are fewer amenities, and the host’s English is charmingly imperfect.
