The best ice cream in the city (sit down, Jeni). Located in Avondale, so it's within walking distance of several restaurants and bars if you're looking to cap off a fun evening with some frozen moo juice.
If you'd like to feel the burn at any point while you're here, head to Ruffner, our favorite place to hike. This former iron-ore-quarry-turned-haven-of-tranquility has easy and intermediate trails and the most beautiful view of downtown Birmingham from a distance.
Head to Pepper Place (former HQ for the cola doctor of the same name) on Saturday morning for live music, farmers and produce galore, coffee, breakfast sandwiches, burritos, and pastries, and fun for the whole family. The earlier the better—the good stuff gets snatched up first.
The best donuts in town and some of the best breakfast sandwiches, too. And their burgers too, honestly. It's all about the buns. Great buns.
Located directly across the street from the reception venue/zoo, this beautiful garden is where Winn said she did. Scores of gorgeous flora scattered amongst shaded paths and babbling brooks and whatnot. 10/10 recommend.
If you were gonna ask us our opinion on the best BBQ in town, we'd say go to Saw's. Regardless of what you order, prepared to be wowwed and subsequently ready to nap.
If you are from Meridian, this is the brewery John Kueven and his family started. If you're not, this is a cool spot with some great beer.
Another good brewery that would be a nice Saturday spot for lunch.
Former mechanic shop/garage turned eclectic al fresco dive bar with delectable sandwiches. Cash only but there is an onsite ATM.
Poignant and powerful reminder that time doesn't always move as fast as we think.
Beautiful park in downtown that's also conveniently located next to a different Hero Doughnuts (which would also be a great Saturday brunch spot). Fun fact: You can start walking at Railroad Park and take the Magic City Rotary Trail to several different breweries including Back 40 and Ghost Train. Can also rent bicycles and scooties.
Astronomical themed coffee shop where you can play old school console games by day (Lane, if you're seeing this they have Golden Eye), concert venue and bar by night. Good spot for a nice cuppa on Saturday morning, innit?
