Some say fate has a sense of humor; our relationship emerged out of so many happy accidents that in our case, we'd consider “humor” an understatement. We connected on a dating app in 2020 by a fluke: Alyssa took a day trip from her home in Philly to see her friend Wendy in Brooklyn, where Pete lived, and the app put her profile in Pete’s feed just long enough for him to see it. Pete actually bought a premium subscription so he could send her a “rose” on the app and prioritize his message, but Alyssa went on a self-care bender (it was 2020, remember) and didn’t see it for almost a year. When she did notice (in August of 2021 *oops*), we had a great time chatting with each other about all kinds of things, until a few days in, when we both realized we lived in different cities. (Turns out, we had both failed to correctly read the other’s location, which will surprise no one who has experienced our flaming ADHD.) We were a little crushed by that discovery, but we enjoyed each other’s company so much that we decided to keep each other’s numbers anyway, and to keep chatting when we could. A few months later, Alyssa had a job prospect in NYC open up suddenly, and we decided to meet up for dinner and margaritas after her interview. Alyssa almost canceled because she was exhausted, but thanks to Wendy’s encouragement (thank you Wendy) she didn’t. We connected instantly and got lost in conversation for hours, until we finally got kicked out of the restaurant. From that point it was really clear that we wanted to be together, and Alyssa got the job and decided to make the move to NYC. Once we were in the same city, the rest was history, and now we make each other’s lives chaos in other ways :)
