Bear Mountain is a small mountain situated on 140 acres of land with a variety of hiking trails. You can take a 4.5 to 5 mile hike roundtrip to the peak (around 350’ of elevation gain) or explore other trails. One of the trails leads you to Candlewood Lake, where you can take a dip. Note that there are other Bear Mountains in CT and NY, so be careful if you’re plugging this into a GPS. This Bear Mountain is in Danbury itself. Go to https://www.hikenewengland.com/BearMtnResvGen1.php for a trail map.
This state park has swimming and hiking along Candlewood Lake. For out of state cars there is a $22 fee to park, no fee for CT plated vehicles.
