Question

Answer

Indian weddings are fun and welcoming events! Guests of all ethnic backgrounds are welcome (but not AT ALL required) to wear Indian outfits. If you're more comfortable in western clothes, you're welcome to wear those. We just want to celebrate with you.

Question

if I want to be adventurous, what are the different types of Indian clothes I could wear?

Answer

Here are the most common types of Indian Clothing: Women: 1. **Sari (Saree)**: A timeless classic, the sari is a long, unstitched piece of fabric draped elegantly around the body, usually paired with a blouse (choli). 2. **Lehenga Choli**: A favorite choice for brides and wedding guests, the lehenga choli consists of a flared skirt (lehenga) paired with a fitted blouse (choli) and often accompanied by a dupatta (scarf). 3. **Anarkali Suit**: A long, flowy dress with a fitted bodice and a wide, flared skirt, the Anarkali suit is a regal choice for weddings. 4. **Salwar Kameez**: The salwar kameez is a versatile and traditional outfit comprising a tunic (kameez), loose trousers (salwar), and a dupatta. 5. **Sharara**: A sharara is a pair of wide-legged, flared pants that are paired with a short kurta or choli. Men: 1. **Sherwani**: A traditional and regal outfit, the sherwani is a long coat-like garment, often embellished with intricate embroidery or zari work. It is typically worn over a kurta and paired with a churidar or a slim-fit pant. 2. **Kurta-Pajama**: A classic and comfortable outfit, the kurta-pajama is a simple yet elegant ensemble. The kurta is a loose-fitting shirt, and the pajama is a drawstring trouser, often worn with a dupatta or shawl for added flair. 3. **Bandhgala**: A sophisticated, tailored jacket, the bandhgala features a stand-up collar and is often worn over a kurta or shirt. 4. **Achkan**: Similar to a sherwani but lighter, the achkan is a long, knee-length coat worn with a churidar or straight-cut pants. 5. **Saafa/ Pagdi**: While not clothing in itself, the saafa (turban) or pagdi adds a royal touch to the groom’s or guest's outfit.
