Thanks to a shared passion for Earth Science, Will and Megan first crossed paths at Boise State in 2018. Will was in the final semester of his Master’s in Hydrology, while Megan was just beginning her Master’s in Geophysics. They quickly bonded over night skiing at the local mountain, carpooling up the Bogus Basin road to catch as many laps as they could. As winter turned to spring, Will introduced Megan to whitewater kayaking on the Payette River, just an hour north of Boise— ask them about their first outing on the river! Their worlds continued to collide through the seasons in Idaho — Will pursuing his PhD, and Megan working as a snow scientist. Together, they spent their free time skiing Idaho’s backcountry peaks and paddling down river. During Covid, they moved to McCall, ID to be closer to the snow. In the fall of 2022, they did the "reverse migration" and left Idaho for California: Will began a position at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, while Megan worked remotely for NASA’s Terrestrial Hydrology Program. Now settled in Truckee, CA, Megan works at California’s oldest snow monitoring lab, and Will continues his work remotely with ties to the Bay Area. They’ve found community and joy among the pine forests and exploring the rivers and peaks of the Sierra Nevada. There’s so much ahead for them, and while they can’t wait for all that’s to come, they’re taking a moment to celebrate — by getting married!
