How We Met

6/26/21

I met Kelly Anne on June 26th,2021 in the middle of a tornado. I traveled to Kalamazoo that day to visit Meg and Eddie and have a beach day in South Haven. When I arrived, the weather had gone gloomy and the wind had picked up so we decided to stay in Kalamazoo. Once the tornado watches came into effect, we decided we should go bowling as it wasn’t less safe than their apartment and we had to be inside anyway. Meg asked if it was okay if their friend who lived a few buildings over joined and remarked in a less-than-serious way, “She’s cute, maybe you can date her.” We picked up Kelly Anne and I remember being in strong agreement with Meg’s previous statement. We went bowling and enjoyed each other’s company between turns. Then, when the weather cleared, we went to dinner with Meg and Eddie and continued to hit it off. After that, we went back to Meg and Eddie’s apartment where I met Zelda who immediately fought with Meg and Eddie’s dog for my attention. At the end of the evening, I walked Kelly Anne back to her apartment and we stood outside of it talking for an hour and a half. We were told to “keep it down” by one of her neighbors. I walked back to Meg and Eddie’s apartment blissfully. A couple days later, I was wracking my brain for a way to talk to her without coming on too strong. Finally, she texted me regarding a mundane Facebook post I had made about my job. We texted back and forth for a couple days and I decided to ask her on a date, but my mother recommended I not be obvious about the date. My solution was to take her fishing. I asked her to join me on my newly refurbished boat’s maiden voyage. Kelly Anne, seeing through my paper-thin disguise for a date, agreed to join me, the date was set for July 10, 2021.

The First Date

7/10/21

Will asked me on the maiden voyage of his refurbished boat, The Pursuit of Happiness, to go fishing at Fort Custer. He picked me up at my apartment in his pretty red truck. A 30 minute drive to the woods later we arrived at the boat ramp. I helped him get the boat in the water and he then proceeded to row us out. He looked so cute and silly rowing back and forth. We found a spot to start fishing and I proceeded to catch twice the fish he did with my trusty bait, the worm. His lure was no match for my worms. A few bass, sunfish, and bluegills later he told me he was getting hungry, that we were going to go in. I thought for sure the date was over and that the cute boy was not interested. After loading up the boat and getting back on the road toward home, I was pleasantly surprised when he asked where I wanted to go for lunch! We enjoyed olive burgers at Main Street Pub, We really hit it off when he got an "olive bone," (aka an olive pit) and laughed like no one else was around. As we finished our meals neither of us wanted the date to be over, but Zelda needed attention. I was relieved when he asked if I would like to take Z to Asylum Lake for a hike, so the date continued. We walked all around the lake and shared stories, goals, and all the things you aren't supposed to talk about on the first date. After spending 12 hours together for our first date it was time to call it a night, but from that day on, we have looked for every opportunity possible to spend more time with each other and enjoy each other.
