Will: "I had been planning the proposal for weeks and landed on a date, July 20th. We met up with her best friend Leah and her boyfriend at brunch that morning, like we often do. Of course this date ended up being the hottest day of the year, with the humidity at an all time high. None of us wanted to be outside. After the brunch Julia and I had plans to go to a family friend's party. Towards the end of brunch, Leah brought up the idea of visiting Chanticleer Garden, a short drive away, and wondered if we wanted to go check it out. She knew it was one of Julia's favorite places, but also secretly knew that it was the proposal spot. To all of our surprise, Julia remarked "umm actually, you two go ahead, we have a party later and it's literally the hottest day of the year, I'd be miserable there. Plus, I was just there a couple of months ago." I was freaking out on the inside! I didn't know what to do. As we both got into the car, I started driving to the location. Julia caught on and asked why we were headed toward the garden. When I said I really wanted to go, she felt like I was kidnapping her (whoops). She didn't understand why I was being so insistent. Her brother would be picking us up for the party in an hour. I quickly texted him to stall, and suddenly Julia gets a text that he's mowing the lawn and will be late.. We finally make it to the garden and as we're all sweating our faces off walking, we come up to the lily pond and I tap her on the shoulder and get down on one knee. She said yes (amidst the tears, severe sweating, and laughter) ! My best friend Dan and his girlfriend had been hiding in the garden with flowers and it was all worth it, even on the hottest day of the year.
