As of April 2021, The UK Government plans to lift all restrictions on events as well as travel. It is currently unclear if unvaccinated peoples may need to have testing completed prior to being allowed to enter the UK. We will keep you updated!

Question

Answer

If you have Will or Ash's number feel free to text or email them at WilliamandAshley2020@gmail.com

Question

What is the weather like?

Answer

During the summer, the average temperature is 70-80 F degrees (21-26 C) and is sunnier than the stereotypes would lead you to believe! Be sure to check the weather prior to leaving to avoid being caught in a stray rain storm. The sun typically sets around 9:30pm.

Question

How will I get around?

Answer

Planes, Trains, and automobiles for sure! Major cities in the UK (and Europe) are all connected via well established transit networks of trains and buses. These run often and mostly on time! Leeds has a large train station and bus station located right in the center of the city, take a train to where ever you'd like! Taxi apps such as uber and amber car are easy ways to call for a car service, these apps can be accessed on your phone.

Question

Can I rent a car or drive in the UK with a US license?

Answer

Yes! If you are under 24 you will most likely not be able to rent a car cheap however a visitor with a US license can legally drive in the UK.

Question

Should I convert my money prior to traveling?

Answer

Be prepared to lose money due to the exchange rate as the British pound is typically valued higher than the American dollar. If you decide to exchange your money at an exchange post or bank there will be a fee associated. The cheapest way to have cash on hand is to take money out of an ATM at the airport upon arrival. For those with cards that do not have chips in them, you may have difficulty using your card for purchases and should consider bringing a card with a chip or making sure you have cash on hand.

Question

Can I use my phone while in the U.K.?

Answer

Short answer is no. You will accrue large roaming charges. Your best bet is to leave your phone on airplane mode while you are here AND turn off cellular data/data roaming. You can still access wifi and communicate via imessage, Facebook, whatsapp, facetime/Skype or any other types of social media apps. Prior to leaving the hotel for the day/ screen shot directions or pictures of maps so you always have access to the directions even offline. Some phone companies allow you to pay for add-ons that allow you to call, text or use data abroad. Contact your provider prior to your trip for more information.

Question

What is the time difference?

Answer

The UK is five hours ahead of eastern standard time (EST) so if it's 12pm in New York then it is 5pm in the UK. When traveling to the UK, the flights will be overnight and you will arrive the next day. So if you want to be in the UK on a Monday, book a flight on Sunday! The UK also utilizes a 24 hour clock so maybe brush up on your military time prior to your visit!

Question

How will Brexit impact my trip to the UK and beyond?

Answer

Brexit should not impact your main journey from the USA to England, however you may need to find further information if you plan to travel Europe. Due to COVID 19, we would suggest doing research prior to planning a trip outside of the UK
