In 2015, between her sophomore and junior years at Cal Poly SLO, Rosh was home for the summer in her childhood home in Sunnyvale. Some 40 miles away, Will lived with his Mom in Pacifica. Both armed with smartphones and a Bay Area Native’s ability to think nothing of an hour’s commute for love, our Tinder search radiuses overlapped. We swiped, we messaged, interest grew, and a first date was scheduled. We met at the Ferry Building in SF and started walking up the Embarcadero. Our walk led us to the Palace of Fine Arts where we laughed, climbed, and even held hands until we realized we had just over an hour to make the last train out of SF…a walk which would normally take the better part of 2 hours. We ran and speed walked our way back across the city to make it just barely. That summer together brought lots of trains, BART transfers, bus rides, and long walks after those buses stopped running. After summer was over, Rosh would be moving to a small town in Italy called Viterbo where she’d study abroad. Knowing the challenges involved with long-distance romance, we agreed to leave it along the lines of, “Look me up when you’re stateside.” Our radio silence lasted about 2 weeks. We chose to navigate the time zones, the phone calls, the facetimes, and whatever else it took in order to call “dibs” on one another. Once Rosh returned to CA, we were happy to accept the 3 hour drive between the Bay and SLO…until we weren’t. Will chose to move down to San Luis where he’d split a studio apartment just a mile down the road from the “Princeton Palace”, the rental house filled to the brim plus the garage with close friends, shenanigans, and too much fun. After Rosh graduated from Cal Poly, we moved back to the Bay separately. Whether the night was spent at the Maha's in Danville, Roshee’s rented room in Milpitas, or Will’s Mom’s in Pacifica, someone had to commute an hour at least. We eventually grew tired of the “Bay-muda Triangle” and rented in Redwood City in 2019. Two years on Manzanita St taught us how to live together and that we’d like to keep it that way. In that time, we found Moose and our life as dog parents started. Following the pandemic, unbeatable interest rates on homes became available and we were urged to capitalize. Numerous and foolhardy attempts to purchase in the Bay led us to reevaluate and shift gears to where we’d actually like to live. The Central Coast was calling us home and in September of '21, the stars aligned with an ease only a Universe-in-agreement can provide. We added Phoebe into the fold and our Santa Ysabel home in Atascadero is a cozy one filled with love, belly laughs, and dog fur. In August of ’24, we went on our annual “Squad Trip” where we and those same best friends from college camp on a river, play board games, and recharge. With help from his team of cohorts, Will managed to surprise his now fiancé with a proposal so cheesy, it would render anyone lactose-intolerant. He planted a home-made "tackle box" up river where he’d wander and “find” it and show his ground-score to the group. Though the see-through case clearly revealed many of her favorite snacks, it wasn’t enough to entice Rosh to investigate any further or find the “instructions” within. Lucky for Will because he’d left the instructions in the car where he’d packed the tackle box with snacks. Convinced he’d absolutely blown his cover, he marched back to the car insisting that there was a “critter in the case that needs to be dealt with”. Once he returned, he let Rosh know that the Big Fish Kit had instructions and she ought to read them and she did so aloud. Once she read her name, she knew what was about to happen. She finished reading and her cheeseball got on a knee in the river and blubbered his way through a proposal that many would call long overdue. Nine and a half years after it all started, we ask you to join us in celebration of where we’ve been and who we’ve become together.
