Carytown is a shopping district along a nine-block stretch of West Cary Street with colorful boutiques, record stores, vintage shops, and restaurants. Some of our (well, Allison's, let's be real) places to visit: Ashby, Clementine, Mongrel, Ten Thousand Villages, and Walkabout Outfitters. Order a burger on the patio of Burger Bach before walking the full length of the street, making sure to take a photo in front of the historic Byrd Theater at the opposite end.
Maymont is a 100-acre Victorian estate and public park that offers free admission to visitors. Highlights include the Italian and Japanese gardens, a small zoo, and miles of walking trails. This is a wonderful place to feel as though you've "escaped" the city even though you're still in the heart of it all. Grab a picnic lunch from nearby Stella's Grocery or Pop's Market on Grace, and you've got the ingredients for a perfect afternoon!
Revitalized Scott’s Addition is the hub of the city’s brewing scene, with cideries, taprooms, and distilleries housed in converted warehouses. Best of all, everything is within walking distance! Some of our favorites include The Veil Brewing Co., Starr Hill Beer Hall & Rooftop, and Ardent Craft Ales.
Completed in 2016 and named for the late City of Richmond senior planner T. Tyler Potterfield, this wheelchair-accessible pedestrian bridge links Brown’s Island and Manchester, providing unequaled river vistas and panoramic views of the downtown skyline. One of our favorite activities is to walk this loop that also connects to the historic Belle Isle.
VMFA is a renowned museum offering both permanent installations that can be viewed for free as well as featured exhibitions that require ticketed entry. After finishing your tour, we highly recommend purchasing a bottle of wine from the cafe to sip while enjoying their beautiful grounds!
