Megan and Jim met for the first time in September of 2022. She was visiting his cousins (college mates of hers) and they ventured to Jim's family's house during the visit. Jim came off the porch to shake Megan's hand when she was being introduced. Apparently she didn't make much eye contact with him and might have flushed a little, but in her mind she was thinking he was probably the most attractive guy she'd ever met. Of course they didn't spend any time talking to each other, but that November Josh and Shenie drug Jim to Bozeman for a concert Megan and her roommates had invited them to. Through unfortunate timing in Megan's life they still didn't talk to each other, and the scheme stalled for a few months. In May of 2023, Megan was again in Idaho visiting and Shenie began talking Jim up to her, but she (not being very good with names) had really no idea of who this Jim was and she was somewhat opposed to being set up with anyone. But another visit in November 2023 and the cousins had schemed a game night with the two--during which Megan misinterpreted Jim's shyness for uninterestedness, and Jim was maybe getting a little more interested. The cousins left them alone to talk to each other, and Megan discovered what land surveying was, but that was about it and she didn't figure the idea the set-up warranted any consideration on her side. But they had talked to each other and hung out together, and that was a step forward. Nearly a year later and Josh & Shenie planned a group backpacking trip, but probably everyone knew it was less about the camping and more about the set-up; they even moved the dates when Megan couldn't make the original plans. On this trip Shenie lamented that Jim wasn't making enough effort, but Megan was more amused than anything and figured if Jim wasn't interested she didn't need to be. Jim did get up enough courage to ask her about her hiking boots. Megan left the trip early to make it to afternoon church, and Josh told Jim if he was ever going to make a move he better take his chance. He was more interested than Megan thought and took Josh's advice to heart. That evening he texted her to ask if she wanted to get coffee sometime. Megan was surprised and confused about what to do, so basically put him on pause to figure the rest of her life out. Almost two weeks later she gave him a yes and on October 5th of 2024 they met in Missoula for coffee. A few weeks later Jim took her on a cool canoe date, after which they started weekly phone calls, which turned into twice weekly calls, then added some texting, then a visit to meet his family in December, then a call from Jim to Megan's dad and they started officially dating December 13th, 2024. Many trips between Fernwood and Bozeman were made since then, as well as an abundance of phone calls. Eventually the distance was too much and Megan moved to Moscow, ID in August of 2025. A little time went by and Jim proposed on September 20th, 2025, just barely a year after asking Megan out to coffee. She still thinks he's the most attractive guy that exists. They could not be more excited to spend the rest of their lives together and look forward to celebrating the start with their family and friends this November.
