Brian and I met on Bumble (is there any other way?) at the end of 2018. My coworker Amy wanted to play with my Bumble app, so I dropped my phone off in her office and headed into a meeting. An hour later when I picked up my phone, Amy showed me that I had matched with a handsome guy with a red beard, and I decided to message him. When our first conversation was about Tex Mex, I knew I was interested. Whether it was myself or Amy that sent the initial message is highly debated by Brian, but rest assured, it was me. When Brian got back in town from Christmas and vacation with his family (which was ironically in Florida!), we met at a restaurant on Greenville Avenue. A job promotion, long distance relationship, countless airport hugs, and move to a new state during a global pandemic later, Brian proposed!
The proposal was an amazing surprise. We had just spent a few days in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and that day we were flying to Barcelona. We had some down time before checking out of our hotel and heading to the airport, so I sat on the balcony for one last look at our view of the Adriatic Sea. It was a beautiful day. Brian came out and sat next to me, and after a while, he suggested we stand up so we could see the Old Town, which was out of view when sitting. When we stood up, I got a little fixated on a swimmer that I thought was too far out and almost ruined the romantic moment, but Brian reeled me back in and got down on one knee! I hyperventilated so I can’t remember anything after that, but I’m sure he said some nice things. We went on to celebrate in Barcelona by eating our weight in jamon. It was the perfect private moment.
