Our story began in November 2020, in a small mechanic shop, with a set of spark plugs and a Mountain Dew. Genevieve needed help with her car, and Dylan offered to lend a hand. She showed up with a cheeseburger and a cold Mountain Dew as a thank-you — and what was supposed to be a quick fix turned into something much more. After the spark plugs were changed, the evening took an unexpected turn when Genevieve gave Dylan a haircut… a mullet, to be exact. His friend Tyler, who tagged along, got one too. What started as car maintenance ended with laughter, new hairstyles, and hours spent talking and hanging out late into the night. We became official about a week later, but from that very first night, it felt like we’d known each other forever. Everything came so naturally — easy conversation, lots of laughter, and the kind of silly fun that only happens when you’re completely comfortable with someone. Since then, we’ve been pretty much inseparable. And yes — Dylan still has the mullet, and Genevieve still cuts it.
After two years of living in Michigan, we packed up our lives (and a U-Haul) and hit the road to move back home to Colorado. On the first day of the drive, we stopped for the night in Kearney, Nebraska. That evening at the hotel, Genevieve asked if we could finally stop at the “Welcome to Colorado” sign the next day — something she’d always wanted to do, but somehow we’d missed on all our road trips. Dylan agreed, knowing full well that stop was already part of the plan. The next morning, Dylan drove the U-Haul solo while Genevieve rode with her dad. About 15 minutes before the state line, they stopped for gas — and on a whim, Genevieve decided to jump in and ride with Dylan for the final stretch. Cue the mild panic as Dylan quickly tried to hide the ring that had been sitting (not-so-subtly) on the center console. When they finally pulled over at the sign, Genevieve’s dad offered to take a few photos. After a couple of shots, Dylan turned to her and said, “I told you I’d propose as soon as we got back to Colorado,” and got down on one knee. It was an easy, joyful “Yes!” — made even better by the fact that her dad managed to get it all on video without a hitch.
