Visit the honorary 8th wonder of the world (according to us Buffalonians at least). Niagara Falls is about 30 minutes from The Mansion and downtown Buffalo. You can visit the falls on the American side, or if you have a passport, the Canadian side! You can walk or drive over the bridge to Canada. The Canadian side has some shops around the area as well, or if you’re up for some water try out the Maid of the Mist, the Hornblower, or the Cave of the Winds to get up close to the falls.
What better food to try in Buffalo than wings! Duff’s Famous Wings is a popular spot for wings, often competing with Anchor Bar, although there are many other top contenders now including Bar-Bill and Wingnutz.
Elmwood Village is a fun neighborhood in Buffalo with lots of great restaurants, bars, and shops to check out. Elmwood and Breckenridge St or Layfette Ave would be a great location to start to walk around the area (walk along Elmwood Ave).
Delaware Park is a large park in Buffalo with beautiful greenery and a calm ambience. Hoyt Lake is a beautiful location to check out. The Art Museum is nearby as well which is a beautiful building to see from the outside, even if not interested in exploring inside. The Buffalo History Museum (included below) is also by another portion of Delaware Park.
Buffalo is home to a ton of United States History (depends who's asking)! Go on your own tour of Buffalo history and check out sites such as: 1. Millard Fillmore is one of two Buffalonians to serve as President. He is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery 2. Teddy Roosevelt was sworn into office in Buffalo after the assassination of William McKinley. He was sworn in at the Ansley Wilcox House (only .4 miles from the wedding venue!) which is open for tours. 3. Grover Cleveland was the other Buffalonian to serve as President. There is a statue of him outside of Buffalo City Hall, as well as Millard Fillmore (less than a mile from the wedding venue!) 4. Visit Canalside and see the historic Erie Canal (the largest artificial waterway in North America!). While there are a lot of spots to see the canal (including Gateway Harbor Park in North Tonawanda where Emily grew up), Canalside is in downtown Buffalo and recently revitalized to host concerts and a nice area to walk around.
If your own history tour isn't for you, but you still want to learn about Buffalo History, the Buffalo History Museum is the place for you! You could also visit the Japanese Gardens outside of the museum.
Another food Buffalo is known for is sponge candy! Watson's is in the area if you are checking out Elmwood Village, and Fowler's is another popular sponge candy location, although if you stop by the Welcome Event you may even get to try some there!
North Tonawanda is about 20 minutes away from downtown Buffalo, but if you are interested in exploring further outside of downtown there are some great local favorites here from the Bride where she grew up: 1. Jamie's Ice Cream (Emily even worked here back in the day!) 2. Eucalypt Cake Artistry + Cafe - This is a lovely cafe with sweet treats and pizza. The owner went to High School with Emily! 3. Platter's Chocolate Factory - Another sponge candy location located in the historic Wurlitzer Building 4. Ted's Hot Dog - Buffalo is known for a lot of great food including Sahlen’s hot dogs. Ted’s cooks them over a charcoal grill. Order a hot dog with another Buffalo staple, Loganberry, to drink. There are other Ted's outside of North Tonawanda that would be closer to visit as well!
