Here what you need to know to get there

Hotel

Cala Luna

We have bought out the entire hotel from Thursday the 11th through Sunday the 14th. You have to use the link below to book during those dates, and the rate is also good for three days prior (Nov 8th) to three days after (Nov 16th). There is no cancelation fee up to October 13. The rate also includes daily breakfast and sunset cocktails. Michael and I will be there Nov 8-15th and we would love for you to come and spend as much time with us as possible! You need to use the link on this website to book your room (both for our rate and because the entire hotel is blocked for the weekend). If you have any trouble booking the room you want for any of those dates please reach out to one of us! The hotel system only releases a certain number of the rooms to our "discount code" for the days leading up to the wedding. Sometimes as rooms get booked we have to coordinate with the hotel to have them release additional rooms to our code... so please let us know if you have any problems!

Flight

Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR)

The closest airport is LIR, which is about an hour from Tamarindo, where all the festivities are taking place. Once we have everyones flight info we are going to arrange some group transportation from LIR to Cala Luna. The other international airport is San Jose (SJO), but this would require renting a car and driving about 3.5 hours. Another option is to get a connecting flight from SJO to the domestic airport of Tamarindo (TNO) on SANSA Airlines.

Travel Note

Room sharing

If anyone is looking to augment their cost by splitting a hotel room with another single wedding guest you can reach out to me or Michael and we can help facilitate that.

Travel Note

Airport Transfer

We are working with a company to provide an affordable option to get from the airport to the hotel for those guest who don't want to rent a car. We think it will be mini buses that fit 10 people and the cost will be $13/person. Once we have everyones flight information (a question on the RSVP) we will help coordinate people who are on the same flight to make sure there are enough people to fill each bus. We are hoping to get a link up on the website soon so people can book directly with them.

Rental Car

Thrifty Rent a Car

When renting a car in Costa Rica, there are a few important things to know. When you make a reservation, the price that is shown to you is hardly ever the actual price you end up paying. The companies will tell you that you are required to purchase insurance. Although most people are covered under their own insurance and through their credit cards, companies in Costa Rica rarely recognize it and still force you to purchase insurance. These are usually between $30 and $60 per day. Some companies recognize high profile credit cards such as AMEX Platinum and will sometimes waive the insurance. In the past, we have brought documentation from our insurance company in the USA, as well as documentation sent directly to us by the credit card company and it sometimes works. If you are able to convince them that you don't need coverage, they will then place a large hold on your credit card, between $3000 and $5000. We have found Thrifty to be the most willing to recognize peoples insurance.

Travel Note

Other Modes of Transportation

The hotel is in Tamarindo, but a little bit of a walk from the downtown area (about a mile). Uber is available in Costa Rica, but there aren't always drivers available. The local cabs should be on a meter so make sure they turn it on when you get in. There are bikes available for free at the hotel. You can also rent a golf cart from the hotel (or various places in town) to drive to and from town for $50/day or $350/week.
