Well no one really likes 2020 anyway, so we are rolling with it (and probably drinking a few Coronas to ease the pain) and postponing our wedding. After much thought and few tears (Michael's not mine... ok fine they were mostly mine) we decided on the new date of Nov, 13 2021. Like most of you we couldn't have imagined the world coming to a standstill for so long, and because I can't face planning a wedding three times we decided to err on the side of caution and push the date a full year. We sincerely hope that everyone will still be able to join us in 2021 and that you will be even more excited when the day finally comes.
Courtney and I met on a flight from Washington D.C. to Atlanta right after Christmas in 2016. It was a beautiful morning in Washington, DC and I remember that morning I felt the same way I feel before any flight at 5am: Tired. The flight was full, which meant Courtney had to sit in the flight deck jumpseat, and I was the First Officer flying the plane to Atlanta. For the first time, I was happy the flight was full! Courtney and I had a great conversation on the flight down and before she left we exchanged contact information. We talked for a couple of days and soon after we saw ourselves on our first date, at the Delta Sky Club in the Atlanta Terminal. About 3 weeks later, I asked Courtney (like a high school kid) to be my girlfriend. I knew then Courtney was the perfect girl for me, and I recall a few months after that I told Courtney I was going to marry her one day. Turned out I was right!
So I showed up at the airport at 5 am to commute to work, assuming I would have a seat in the back of the airplane, which would mean getting to sleep 2 hours before I got to work. Much to my despair I was told the flight was full and I would have to sit in the jumpseat. After introducing myself to the captain, he immediately asked if I could go find his coffee which he apparently left upstairs (insert at the time eye roll)… turns out he legitimately left his coffee upstair, but also used the time I was gone to discuss how he could wingman his First Officer (Cerrato) to hit on me. The captain did an excellent job by mentioning on the taxi out that Michael was the “4 month upgrade” a pilot, who was notorious at the regionals airlines for foolishly upgrading at Delta before his probationary period was over (and thus risking termination from a dream job…. Or so I and everyone else thought). This quickly sparked my fascination and the conversation from DCA to ATL… despite my desire to sleep. As it turns out Michael and I had worked for the same company on different airplanes, and he worked in the hiring department of ExpressJet. His pickup line consisted of “I can help you with your Delta application” to which I cautiously accepted his phone number. A week later we had our first date at a Delta Skyclub in Atlanta (seriously such nerds!) and the rest is history!
