How We Met

Chris and Lauren met at work, November of 2013. They were working at the same restaurant; he worked in back of house and she worked in the front of house. She would tell you that he had this way of giving you a sideways glance with a smile. You have probably seen the one. One wednesday that same fall the entire staff went out for 2 for 1 burgers at Hut’s Hamburgers. Chris was the new guy. Those who were of age went out for drinks together afterwards. Lauren only lived a couple miles away at the time so at the end of the night Chris offered to give her a ride home; She accepted. So, as Chris pulled his car out of the parking lot he got pulled over immediately because he was driving the wrong way down a one-way street. The cops had him get out of his car and walk the line; typical new guy... Of course he was okay, they just had to check and ended up letting him off with a warning. Lauren and Chris went on dates periodically for several months, taking their time. It wasn’t until the following summer that Chris asked Lauren if she wanted to go hiking with him, and his brother, to Enchanted Rock. Of course she said yes, though she would admit it was a bit strange for him to invite his brother as well! Things however continued to take off relationship-wise. Lauren at work was eventually promoted to general manager which meant that she was Chris’ boss and NO ONE knew about their relationship; for a while anyway, eventually people caught on. By August of 2014 they were starting to hangout weekly and shortly after, they moved into an apartment together.

The Proposal

May 30th, 2016 Chris took Lauren hiking and “camping” to one of their favorite spots - Enchanted Rock. It was a perfect memorial day in Central Texas. They summited the rock and sat to admire the day in a secluded spot. While Lauren was resting with her eyes closed Chris surprised her with a ring. Chris: Would you marry me? Lauren: Seriously? Chris: Well, yes. Lauren: Of course!! And he whisked her away to a splendid Bed and Breakfast out in Stonewall instead of “camping”, where they wined and dined the night away. Was Lauren really surprised? She has a bit of a different story that led up to the proposal. The morning of May 30th, Lauren and Chris had planned to go camping. However, to Lauren, Chris was being weird. He was forgetting to pack the most essential camping equipment; the tent AND the coffee press! Lauren would never survive without coffee :) Also, unlike Chris, Lauren has an extremely organized closet and immediately noticed when her nice clothing and shoes (not hiking outfits) were removed from their hangers. She was getting a bit suspicious. It was when he forgot the coffee and hadn’t packed food for camping that she knew something was up. And yet now they were happily engaged! The idea of renting eventually disagreed with them, so they bought a 1981 Avion trailer and started the remodeling process in September 2016. Chris and Lauren have been living in their trailer now for over a year and love it. They share their home with their two dogs Gus and Diesel on the back corner of the Blue Frog School of Music. Chris and Lauren share many passions; the outdoors being the main one. They have backpacked the Grand Canyon, Big Bend, and the Guadalupe Mountains. They frequent Texas State parks and local hiking areas. They also share a love for food and libations.
