Our Story

Finding Love at the right time

Charles and Jessica both moved to Norman at different times but for a similar reason, a promotion with Marriott. Jessica, after spending 12 years in the Dallas area and graduating college from UNT, moved to Norman in June 2014. Charles, after a year dealing with adversity and a tragic loss, moved to Norman in December 2016. While their relationship began as friends and colleagues they realized there was something more there. With some changes taking place at their Norman hotel, Jessica was able to find a new remote job with Marriott while Charles retired with 30 years tenure to start a new career with a smaller hotel management company. Their move to Norman both brought them something unexpected, Charles finding a person he thought he would never find again and Jessica finding her "person" that she had been waiting so long for. Their adventure continues as they both relocated to the Tulsa, OK area with future plans of hopefully returning to Texas.

The Proposal

December 26, 2018

After many weekends spent enjoying Hallmark movies, Charles knew the perfect setting was to propose in the mountain town of Estes Park, Colorado. It was all planned months in advance including the Christmas week in a beautiful cabin with Charles' kids and Jessica's mom, sisters, brother in law and nephew. The set-up: a walk in Rocky National Park with the photographer and champagne hiding in the woods. Charles, being the planner that he is, checked out the site prior to the big event and much to his dismay realized it was closed because of the government shutdown! T- minus 2 hours he had to scramble, he called the photographer and the switch was made to Lily lake, a beautiful frozen lake surrounded by snow covered mountains. The new plan was set and the group piled in vehicles for the beautiful ride to the lake, everyone "in the know" for months on the big plan... except Jessica. After having been in the mountains a few days without a flake of snow falling, on the drive over to Lily Lake the snow started to slowly fall. The group arrived and walked around part of the lake and then as the snow started falling more heavily, Charles walked Jessica to a wooden pier (the planned spot) to get down on one knee and ask her to marry him. A gorgeous setting and the most perfect day for their journey to begin, with loved ones nearby to experience the moment.

The Venue

POST OAK Lodge and Retreat

Local lore says adventurous pioneers fell in love with the Osage Hill’s woodlands, valleys and sparkling ponds. Storied outlaws like Jesse James, Belle Starr and the Dalton brothers are said to have found refuge in the area’s hills and caves. Eventually the serenity of the gorgeous site caught the attention of the Catholic Diocese. In 1983, Our Lady of Osage Hills was built on part of the acreage as a retreat and summer camp. POSTOAK’s mission is to be a restful and revitalizing destination for all guests by providing a first class experience surrounded by the natural beauty of the Osage Hills. What a perfect destination to welcome our family and friends. The location has cabins in what can best be described as lodges with a bed and breakfast feel. The lodges have bedrooms with their own bathrooms and share a common area. The large cabins have 18 beds and the smaller ones have 4 bedrooms. There are many activities for our guests to enjoy while staying the weekend. Zip lining, fishing, hiking and swimming, in a beautiful setting just 10 minutes from downtown Tulsa.
