Matthew and Bethany officially met in 2018 at their high school’s freshman mixer. Unofficially, the story began years earlier at a seventh-grade math meet where Bethany may or may not have “accidentally” walked away with Matthew’s medal after a scoring mix-up. For most of high school, they were just friends, competing in chemistry class, swapping math homework help, and sharing the occasional inside joke. That changed junior year when Señora Hahn’s seating chart separated Bethany from Morgan, and her next to Matthew. Conversations started and never really stopped. Early in the relationship, Bethany told Matthew that her faith was non-negotiable. Over time, his faith became his own and their relationship grew not just emotionally but spiritually, with Christ at the center. They became one of those inseparable high school couples, winning both prom and homecoming king and queen. After graduation, they braved long distance with Matthew at Bethel University and Bethany at DePaul. Just a few days into the semester, she felt an unmistakable pull to be somewhere else. She withdrew, finished the year at community college, and later transferred to Bethel. College together meant hockey games, late-night Taco Bell runs with AJ, and everyday life together. By sophomore year, Matthew was quietly ring shopping with help from his mom’s old babysitter, now a jeweler, and their closest friends. On October 18, 2024, under peak fall colors at Inspiration Point, he asked. She said yes! Bethany loves Matthew’s calm, steady presence even in chaos, his compassion for others, and *unique* humor. Matthew thinks Bethany is the absolute funniest person he knows (even if she does think comedians make up stories). He admires how hard of a worker she is, and loves talking to her about anything. They are excited for their life ahead, hopefully with a black pug in the mix, and would be blessed by your prayers as they step into marriage.
