Travel Note
Portland is generally mapped into five main areas: NW, SW, NE, SE, and N. North/South is divided by Burnside St. and East/West is divided by the Willamette River. Everything is very close here! The whole weekend will be on the east side. We live in SE, in the Outer Buckman / Sunnyside neighborhood. The wedding venue is in NE, in the Parkrose neighborhood. All locations are within 5-15 minutes of each other.
Flight
PDX is a quick, straightforward drive to/from our place and all of the weekend festivities. It's a medium-sized, super easy airport and if you're renting a car we recommend doing it right there.
House Or Rental
We think a great, cost-effective way to experience Portland is by staying in a fun neighborhood. Each neighborhood has its own personality and no shortage of walkable parks, shops, bars, and restaurants. There are some full house rentals too, if you'd like to stay as a group. You're welcome to run whatever you find by us in email or text for our opinion or any information we might have on an area or listing. For our favorite spots, try using these terms when searching for rental accommodations: Belmont, Portland, OR Laurelhurst, Portland, OR Mt. Tabor, Portland, OR Hawthorne, Portland, OR Ladd's Addition, Portland, OR Alberta, Portland, OR
Hotel
Hotels here are primarily located either very near the airport, downtown, or right across the bridge into inner Southeast. We don't spend much time downtown and generally don't recommend staying there. The hotels we encourage you to check out are: KEX HOTEL www.kexhotels.com The Kex is pretty hip and has single rooms, family rooms (1 queen bed + 2 bunks), and bunks with 4 or 16 beds. You can choose a private ensuite bath or shared bathrooms and most rooms range from $145 to $280 per night (bunks are less). Grab a boozy date shake + a very good bad-for-you burger at Pacific Standard, their lobby bar. JUPITER HOTEL & JUPITER NEXT HOTEL www.jupiterhotel.com These are two separate hotels on one stretch of the block on the SE/NE border, separated by the Doug Fir — a classic Portland lounge and venue. Rooms range $185 - $230 per night. HOTEL GRAND STARK www.palisociety.com/hotels/hotel-grand-stark This pet-friendly SE boutique hotel is near the river, home to Grand Amari and Little Bitter Bar by Olympia Provisions, and offers deals if you pay in advance or stay more than 3 nights. Rooms range $160-$240 per night. KIMPTON RIVERPLACE HOTEL www.riverplacehotel.com If you'd enjoy staying across the river on the west side, this is a very nice spot for folks who prefer very nice accommodation. There are rooms as well as full cottages ranging from $240 to $550 per night. PORTLAND MARRIOTT DOWNTOWN WATERFRONT This Marriott is easy to access with a great view of the Willamette River. Rooms are around $270 per night. AIRPORT-AREA HOTELS If staying near the airport is important to you, you've got plenty of options. There's significantly less Portland personality over there, but it's fine for a straightforward, convenient, or quick stay. Here are a few that offer rooms & suites starting around $145 per night: RESIDENCE INN BY MARRIOTT - PORTLAND AIRPORT AT CASCADE STATION HYATT PLACE PORTLAND AIRPORT / CASCADE STATION ALOFT PORTLAND AIRPORT AT CASCADE STATION
Travel Note
Because everything is so close here, rides from Lyft and other rideshares are usually pretty quick, easy, and inexpensive — probably your best bet! Public transportation is also an option for getting around. You don't "need" a car, but we do recommend renting one for at least a day so you can pop east 30 minutes to the Gorge or west 90 minutes to the coast to see some epic nature! TRAIN & BUS Plan your trip at www.trimet.org/home Portland's light rail train is called the MAX and it's much more similar to LA's Metro than New York's subway. It runs to/from the airport and has many stops along a few intersecting routes. There are a lot of convenient bus lines here and while we've rarely used it since we live in walking/biking distance to so much, when we have ridden the bus it's mostly been easy and reliable. It looks like the 73 line stops at 122nd & Shaver, which is just across from the wedding venue. Adult fares are $2.80 for a single ride (valid for 2 1/2 hours) or $5.60 for a day-pass. You can pay for the train (at the station) or the bus (right on board) using your phone with a contactless credit/debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay. BIKE RENTALS Portland is a super bike-friendly city and there are many local bike rental spots if you'd like to see the town on 2-wheels. For bike rentals, try: EVERYBODY'S BIKE RENTALS www.pdxbikerentals.com $35 - $70 per day
