How We Met

Neighbors to Nuptials

We both spent our early years in the small coastal town of Shell Beach, California. Although we were neighbors, we didn't know each other that well! Shelby's family moved to Arroyo Grande, but later we both attended Arroyo Grande High School. Despite attending the same school and having been neighbors, we still didn't know each other! However, there were many near misses- we had many of the same friends, went to the same parties, and even had geometry together! Although our paths constantly overlapped, we never had the chance to truly get to know one another. Finally in 2016, we reconnected as many modern couples do- through the magic of the internet. Tyler broke the ice with a corny pick up line, and the rest is history!

The Proposal

1.24.2021

On January 24th, 2021, we woke up to the most beautiful chilly morning. Tyler suggested that we take a drive. Tyler had given Shelby a new camera for Christmas, and he suggested we go to a few spots around the coast to take some pictures. Shelby happily agreed, excited to spend time together and play around with her new toy. As we drove around town, we stopped at several significant landmarks. First, to Shell Beach, where we both had grown up. Next to the Sunset Drive- In where we had our first date. Then to Montana De Oro, one of our favorite hiking spots, and up the coast to Ragged Point, where we have enjoyed many day trips together. On the way home, there was one last stop to make- the Cayucos Bluffs. As we hiked along the bluffs- taking pictures and enjoying the stunning coastal views- we chatted aimlessly about the past and the future when suddenly Tyler stopped, dropped (to one knee), and popped (the question)! Shelby cried (a lot) but said Of course!

About Our Venue

Dana Adobe

We are getting married at the historic Dana Adobe in Nipomo, CA. The Dana Adobe is the oldest home in San Luis Obispo County and a registered historical site. The home was built by Boston sea captain William Dana, who in 1837 was granted the 37,888-acre Rancho Nipomo in Southern California. We will be married under Capitan Dana's Sycamore tree, then the newly restored adobe home will serve as our venue for our reception. The venue looks over the beautiful rolling hills of Nipomo. During our reception, please be aware that this is a historical property. We are so fortunate to be able to use this venue for our wedding, so please be respectful to the grounds. We can't wait to see you there!
