It was just another day in photo class when the door opened and in walked this new guy in a black shirt and jeans who sat himself down in the back of the room. She remembers thinking he looked dark for an Asian...come to find out he's Mexican. The teacher announced that the first assignment would start right then and there and that everyone had to partner with someone they did not know. Her close friend found a partner almost immediately and she looked over and saw the new guy still standing around so she walked over and that was that. They went outside for the photo assignment and from the very first moment there was no awkwardness, no forced conversation, they just clicked. They laughed, they talked, and being around each other felt completely natural in a way that does not always happen so fast. That ease never went away and life eventually brought them back together at the same job where everything shifted. She looked forward to going into work just to joke around with him, share music, share space. He looked forward to it the same way, happy just being near her, already knowing deep down that what he felt was more than friendship but not yet ready to say it out loud. One day he asked her to hang out and when he picked her up she noticed immediately that something was different. He was not in his usual clothes. He had on slacks and a nice jacket and cologne and his car was clean. It kept happening, the little outings, even on Valentine’s Day at a karaoke room with her sister, always under the label of just hanging out. The whole time he kept describing this girl he liked, confident, intelligent, beautiful, funny, learning Korean, listening to music from different languages, and every single one of her friends told her he was talking about her. She needed to hear it from him. So one night she asked him straight up and he turned red and told her the truth. That it was her. That it had always been her. That he had liked her for a long time and was scared to say anything because he did not want to lose what they already had. She felt something shift in that moment, something about knowing she had lived in someone’s mind that carefully and that deeply felt like something worth stepping into. They became official on March 5th, 2020. But through the distance and uncertainty of COVID, they chose each other every single day and proved what they had was real before they ever had the chance to fully explore it. She is the most loving and caring person he has ever known, the only one who made him lower his walls and feel safe enough to be truly vulnerable. When the world opened back up after COVID they ran straight into it side by side, trips and adventures and moments they will carry forever, every single one better simply because they were together. Eventually, he sat across from her parents and felt the most nervous he had ever been in his life, but he looked them in the eyes and asked for their blessing because she deserved to be chosen the right way, with intention, with respect, and with God at the center of it. Then on June 6th, 2025 he took her to Yosemite, her favorite place in the entire world, and felt a different kind of nervous, not fear but joy, the kind that comes when everything you have been building toward finally arrives. He got down on one knee, told her everything, and could barely say the words "Brittney will you marry me." Now on March 6th, 2027 the new guy from photo class gets to marry the girl who walked over and chose him as her partner, and the girl from photo class gets to marry the guy she could not stop noticing in the back of the room, and neither of them can believe how lucky they are that they both showed up to class that day.
