About a 40-minute drive from Grouse Mountain Lodge to the entrance in West Glacier (Apgar Visitor Center), Glacier National Park has a lot to explore. A showcase of melting glaciers, alpine meadows, carved valleys, and spectacular lakes. With over 700 miles of trails, Glacier is a paradise for adventurous visitors seeking a landscape steeped in human culture. Relive the days of old through historic chalets, lodges, and the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road. Note: If you'd like to spend a few days in Glacier, we recommend coming before the wedding as the Going-to-the-Sun Road can close around mid-October when snow starts to fall.
Locals and volunteers built what became Whitefish Mountain Resort - opening its first lift on December 14, 1947 - a big milestone that turned Whitefish into a year-round destination. If you want to check out the ski resort, there are hikes up at the mountain, as well as scenic lift rides.
Whitefish Lake is a 7-mile-long glacial lake. One of the most popular public accesses is City Beach located near the lake's outflow. The park has a sandy beach, shaded grass area, designated swimming area, docks, gazebos, and picnic tables. There is also a river path leading out from the lake, which is great for a walk or bike ride.
Whitefish Lake Golf Club offers stunning mountain and lake views on two beautifully maintained courses. It’s one of Montana’s top public golf destinations and the perfect spot for a relaxed round, whether you’re an avid golfer or just along for the scenery. Grouse Mountain Lodge is conveniently located on the 18th hole of the South Course.
The City of Whitefish has built 47 miles of trails and 15 trailheads that are readily accessible from town. The trail is comprised of stacked loops, scenic overlooks, beautiful single-track trails, and gated logging roads. Explore the map at the link below for accessible trailheads.
Bar W Guest Ranch offers horseback trail rides throughout the week.
