They had their first little mini date on the beaches of Nags Head. Whitney was on a family vacation for one week & Charlie had been living on the island for almost 3 years at that time. Charlie pulled up with a small case of black cherry white claws and they both decided to go for a walk on the beach together that evening to chat & get to know each other. They had such a good time, that they ended up hanging out multiple times that week while Whitney was in town. Once she left, Charlie made plans to come visit in West Virginia the following weekend after her return home and he actually followed through! It was at that point that the Father of the Bride (Jerry) said, "Well Whit, I think he likes you!" and the happy couple have been inseparable ever since.
