A Baraat is a parade in which the groom enters the wedding place. The groom comes with a Dholi (drummer), riding in on a sweet ride, along with his entire entourage. So if you're from the groom's side OR bride's side, be sure to come on time to be a part of the dancing as Wayne enters the wedding venue. This is met by Shevani's family and bridal guests greeting him into the wedding venue.

In general, most of our guests will be dressed in formal cultural or cocktail attire. Think - saris, lenghas, kurtas (Indian) and gowns, suits, collared shirts (American).

The Hindu Wedding ceremony starts with the Welcoming of the Groom (Baraat, see above). The wedding ceremony is performed beneath a decorated wedding altar “Mandap” which is represented by four pillars denoting our Parents. The Ceremony is performed by a Hindu priest in English and Sanskrit, the world’s most ancient surviving language. The ceremony consists of: Kanyadan - Offering of the bride to the groom Hast Melap - Acceptance of the bride from the Groom Mangal Pheras - The couple walks around the sacred fire several times, symbolizing the walk of life. The rounds signify their journey together to attain Dharma (duty), Artha (wealth and prosperity), Karma (fulfillment of worldly desires), and Moksha (spirituality and salvation). Saptapadi - the Vows
