Justin and Rachel met in the most romantic way possible...through a dating app. His handle was DCWineGuy and her's GeologyRocks (checks out doesn't it). Their first date was at a bar on 14th St in DC. They talked about movies (Big Lebowski and Jurassic Park), travel, work, and family over a plate of average-at-best fried pickles. They decided the date was better than average, so they decided to do it again. Since that date in March 2014 they have moved across the country, changed jobs, moved back across the country, changed jobs again and started a business all while embracing their passions of good food, the outdoors, good movies, bad movies and much more.
One of the biggest things Justin and Rachel have in common is a love of the great outdoors. While they lived in California they went camping often. One of their favorite spots was Joshua Tree National Park. When Justin asked if Rachel wanted to go camping next weekend Rachel thought nothing of it. A few days later when he asked if she wanted to go on a star-gazing tour she thought it a little weird since he's not one for guided tours, but was so excited to nerd out over space she let the thought pass. They set up their campsite, went for a hike and made dinner where Rachel had more than her share of rosé. Justin having not, drove them to a gas station where they met an amateur astronomer who would drive them to the perfect spot for star-gazing. As they following his truck deeper and deeper into the pitch black desert, Rachel's rosé started to wear off and she became concerned about the legitimacy of this guide. "Where did you say you found him?" "The internet." "Great." When they finally arrived in what could only be assumed was Mexico, the guide set about setting up his GIANT telescope. When the tour was finally underway he pointed out incredible sights like the rings of Saturn, rings around some moons and finally the Ring Nebula (spot a trend? because post-rosé, three-hour-tour in the desert Rachel did NOT). When it was Justin's turn to admire the Nebula he claimed he couldn't see it, over and over he said it. Sleepy and exasperated, Rachel shoved him aside to be sure it was there. In that time he said something along the lines of "I don't see that ring, but I do see this one!" Sweet, private, nerdy. Everything Rachel had ever wanted out of a proposal. He knocked it out of the park.
