We met in 6th grade, when the Reynolds moved from Colorado to Charlotte and John and his sister, Erika, showed up on the school bus one afternoon after Thanksgiving. We were neighborhood friends who hung out in the summers and on snow days, but nothing more than that.
On the suggestion of a mutual friend, John asked Caitlin to be his (platonic) date to the Homecoming Dance in the fall of their senior year of high school. Caitlin said yes, and soon enough they started dating! They both went to UNC Chapel Hill for school, and spent their time cheering on the Heels, attending AXO and Phi Sig functions, and drinking blue cups at He’s Not with their best friends. After a year apart (the “dark year”), Caitlin unexpectedly woke up one morning to find John on the doorstep, and the rest is history! Caitlin spent a brief year after graduation in Washington, D.C., but soon moved to join John in Atlanta where we shared our first home, spent days with friends on the Beltline, and learned to navigate life together through 4 collective jobs, 1 pandemic, and endless trips to Buffalo Wild Wings. We now live in Portland, Maine, and are enjoying exploring all the Northeast has to offer (snow and all)!
In the spring of 2021, Caitlin was driving from Atlanta to San Francisco and back, meeting up with various friends and family along the way. John joined in Lake Tahoe, along with 4 of our best friends and what would become half of our wedding party, Pooja, Anthony, Neal, and Fletcher. For months we talked about hiking Mount Tallac, a 13 mile hike and the tallest mountain on the lake’s shoreline, which we decided to do on our last day. Everyone but Caitlin knew what was coming at the top. The hike was brutal, and even included scaling a snow-covered rock face, so when we got to the top, we were exhausted. Eventually, we got up to take some photos, and instead of smiling for the camera, John got down on one knee with the most beautiful backdrop behind him and asked Caitlin to marry him.
Our wedding will be at the Eastwood Farm & Winery in Charlottesville, Virginia. Weather permitting, we’ll say “I do” on the mountaintop with the fall leaves of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. Afterwards, we’ll head down to the tasting room for food, drinks, and dancing. We are looking forward to celebrating with you all!
