How They Met

During the end of Cassie's freshman year and Josh's junior year at Millersville University (the spring of 2013), Josh and Cassie met playing frisbee on the quad. All of Josh's college friends called him by his last name (and they still do), but they had modified his last name from Waterman to Waterboy. Cassie proceeded to feel pity for this poor kid who was clearly good at frisbee but was only called "Waterboy" by his teammates. How could they be so belittling to him and not call him by his actual name?! Cassie realized later that same day that it was, in fact, just a modification of his true last name. Josh and Cassie were friends throughout the remainder of the spring semester, and spent time together throughout the summer within their friend group. By the fall of 2013, Josh certainly had feelings for Cassie, however she was not quite ready to date yet. They spent more time together as the semester progressed, however just as friends. On October 12, 2013, Josh and Cassie took a trip just the two of them to Six Flags in New Jersey. Cassie was quiet and subdued in the car for the entire drive there (as opposed to her usual chatty self), and Josh was sure he had done something wrong, or that she was too uncomfortable being there with just him and not a bigger friend group. However, upon arrival at the amusement park, Cassie looked him directly in the eye and said "I think we should start dating." Josh responded with his trademark wide smile and said "Okay!" The rest is history!

How He Proposed

Josh and Cassie went on a camping trip to West Virginia in the beginning of April. Both of them love rustic camping, so they chose a remote campground that was best for tents and had only one running water pump. To them, it was a dream. The first night in the campground, the temperature dropped about thirty degrees below what they had anticipated, and when they woke up the first morning, it was twenty-five degrees and everything was frozen. To add to the cold morning, the air mattress they had brought had a hole in it, small enough that they didn't notice it when they went to bed, but large enough that they woke up on the ground with absolutely no air left in the mattress. However, the first full day was wonderful, despite the rough start. The weather was sunny, and it warmed up to seventy degrees, despite the mountains in which they hiked being covered in six inches of snow. Four miles into a hike, at a particularly beautiful overlook, they stopped for a snack, and spent close to thirty minutes relaxing in the sun and enjoying the view. Upon repacking their bags and getting ready to continue their hike, Josh chose this moment to get down on one knee and pop the question! Cassie was saying yes before he could finish asking, and both Josh and Cassie are just as excited for their forever now as they were on that perfect April day.
