The year was 2013 and the class was Ordinary Differential Equations (very romantic). Since they were both in the small program of Electromechanical Engineering at Wentworth, their course work brought them closer and closer together. Liz and Ben became very close friends by the time their third year was over. There was an unidentifiable bond between them that they could both feel, but could not put into words. Enter the fourth year, Liz and Ben decided to journey across the pond to study in Lucerne, Switzerland. It was in the land of magical chocolate and melty cheese where Liz and Ben really began to fall for one another. Eight countries, and many more pastries later Ben and Liz decided to make it Facebook official and start dating. Ben and Liz have now lived together for two years and have gone on to explore many new corners of the globe from the Israeli Desert to the Maltese coastline to the love filled streets of Porto, Portugal (foreshadowing). Now after many years and many miles, they are tying the knot!
As many of you may know, Liz has an incredible gift at seeing EVERYTHING. She is also meticulous when it comes to detail. That being said, some might say that surprising her with a proposal is near impossible. Ben was very aware of this. That's why, with this upcoming trip to Portugal and his unwavering ability at playing dumb, Ben thought that he stood a chance. Alas, as the flights were booked and the AirBnBs were rented, Ben set his plan into motion. As Liz was happily distracted with planning a fantastic vacation, Ben was working in the background carefully as to not raise suspicion. Months turned to weeks and weeks into days. Their trip to Porto was finally here! Ben boarded the plane with Liz, her mother and two sisters. The ring packed tightly into a pair of folded socks. The third day they were in Porto, Liz had booked a photographer for a family photo shoot as a Mother's day gift to Liz's Mom. I think you all know exactly what Ben did with this planned event. At the very last stop of the photo session, overlooking the Duoro river, Ben turned to face the love of his life, got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Liz was completely surprised and overwhelmed with happiness. This moment captured in a series of photographs, to be cherished for a lifetime. Some might say Ben pulled off the greatest proposal of the century. Others say he completely hijacked an otherwise very thoughtful Mother's day gift. Whatever side of that fence you stand on, one thing remains concrete. Ben gets to spend the rest of his life with his best friend.
