They first met in 7th Grade while attending Chisholm Jr. High in 1979. Even though they never dated, they would continue to be friends as classmates until Graduation in 1985. After graduation, they would go their separate ways. Walter moved out of town to start his education and career while remaining a bachelor. Kim would continue to live in Chisholm for a few more years, get married and start a family. It wasn't until their 30th Class Reunion in 2015 where they connected again and became friends. In 2018, life would take a turn of events that would bring them together. Kim's marriage of 32 years came to an end and soon after, she found out she had Uterine Cancer. Fortunately, the cancer had been found early and was surgically removed. Walter reached out to Kim and let her know he was thinking of her. They communicated for a few months then decided to go on their first date to watch "Free Fallin" a Tom Petty Tribute Band play at Famous Dave's in Minneapolis on Dec. 29th, 2018. At the time, Kim was over halfway through her Chemo Treatment with no hair but was feeling good. Walter was set on taking care of her and making her become his Fuzzy Wuzzy. After 6 months of dating, they knew they were falling in love! Walter was living in Golden Valley, while Kim lived in Taconite. He would make the 3 1/2 hour drive up north to see her as often as he could. Then in August of 2021, after 30 years of living in southern MN, he decided it was time to move back up to the Iron Range to be with her. At the same time, Walter had been planning his proposal with Natalie, the owner of Target Sports in Rogers, where Walter has been a member for over 8 years. This is where he took Kim to go shooting on their second date. Natalie has been wanting this to happen ever since she met Kim and saw how happy he was. Finally, after 3 years of dating, with all eyes on them, Walter proposed to Kim on Dec. 31st, 2021. They are very happy to have you all share this wonderful journey with them!
